
2007 Blackhawk District Pinewood Derby
SPECIFICATIONS / RULES
- Participating Cub Scouts must be present and in uniform to enter.
- All participants must use new 2006/2007 cars resulting from qualifying Pack Derbies. No prior cars (antique) are eligible to enter.
- Cars are to be made “PRIMARILY” from the original pine body from the Official Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Kit.
- Any replacement parts must be Official Boy Scout Derby parts.
- The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches. Wheelbase width to be 1 ¾”.
- The weight of the car shall not exceed 5 ounces (141.75 grams). No loose materials of any kind are permitted in the car. The car may be hollowed out and built up to the maximum weight by the addition of wood, metal, and plastic only, provided it is securely built into the body. Final weight will be determined at event check-in.
- Minimum ground clearance must be 3/8 inch as specified in the kit instructions.
- Wheel Bearing: Washers, bushings and springs are prohibited.
- There is no designated front or rear to the supplied body, either end may serve as the front. (If the front end is not obvious it should be marked as such, so the starter is clear on the placement of the car.)
- Detailing: Details such as steering wheel, driver, decals, painting and interior detail are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width or weight. All details must be permanently attached. Car will be displayed and raced as it appears at weigh in. Nothing may be added or removed after check in.
- All cars must use slots in original block for axle placement. No changes in axle distance will be allowed. Polishing of axles is allowed and recommended.
- Cars with shaved wheels will not be allowed to race. The wheels must not be altered in any way (i.e. holes drilled in the side or edge narrowed). No third party wheels will be allowed. The words “Official B.S.A. Made in the USA” and other lettering on the wheels shall remain intact and clearly visible to the inspector.
- Each car must be free-wheeling with no starting device.
- Each car must pass inspection by the Official Inspectors before it may compete. The Inspectors have the right to disqualify cars that do not meet these specifications. Inspectors may allow minor weight reductions due to scale differences. No other alterations shall be made.
- Graphite will be the only lubricant allowed. No other types will be permitted. Graphite application must be done prior to official inspection only.
- No handling of cars after official inspection approval. Picture of Scout with his car may not be taken after official inspection approval until the end of the race and design judging.
- The order of the race will be determined at random by a computer program.
- Judges’ determinations as to race winners are final.
